Getting there
Ferry Terminals & Logistics
Ferries to Anegada depart from the Road Town ferry terminal on Tortola. Both Road Town Fast Ferry and Speedy's operate this route, but service is limited to a few days per week (schedules vary seasonally). The ferry arrives at Setting Point on Anegada's south shore, near the island's main cluster of restaurants and lodging. The crossing takes approximately 75 minutes and can be rough in choppy seas — the route crosses open water north of Virgin Gorda.
Because departures are not daily, planning ahead is essential. Check the current schedule on this site and book your tickets in advance, especially during peak season (December through April). This is a domestic BVI route, so no customs or immigration is required if you're already in the BVI.
Renting a vehicle at Setting Point is highly recommended — jeeps, trucks, and mokes are available. The island's roads are mostly unpaved, and you'll want wheels to explore the beaches and restaurants spread across the island. Driving around is part of the experience — Anegada has a culture and pace all its own, very different from the other BVI islands, and exploring by car is one of the best ways to take it in.

On the island
What to Expect on Anegada
Anegada feels like slipping out the back door of the Caribbean — for a detailed look at what a day on the island is like, see our guide to spending the perfect day on Anegada. Flat as a pancake, wild, quiet, and spread out — it's nothing like the volcanic hills and busy harbors of the other BVI islands. The beaches here are rimmed in impossible shades of turquoise with powdery white sand, and on weekdays you may have an entire stretch to yourself. Cow Wreck Beach is the star — glowing turquoise shallows and a barefoot beach bar vibe at TIPSY by Ann. Loblolly Bay and Flash of Beauty are also stunning, with healthy corals and excellent snorkeling right off the beach.
Anegada is famous for its beach-grilled lobster. Restaurants like Big Bamboo, Potter's, Wonky Dog, Lobster Trap, and Anegada Reef Hotel all serve fresh lobster pulled from the surrounding waters — but you need to reserve your lobster order by 4 PM so they know how many to pull from the traps. The Anegada Beach Club offers a pool, lobster pizza, and a free shuttle. For a local experience, look for Monica's roti stand.
Beyond the beaches, Flamingo Pond is home to a flock of Caribbean flamingos — a rare sight in the BVI. Horseshoe Reef, the fourth-largest barrier reef in the world, nearly encircles the island and offers world-class snorkeling. Local guides can take you out to explore the reef and the shipwrecks it has claimed over the centuries. Conch Island, a man-made island of discarded conch shells, is another quirky stop worth seeing.
