Terminals, Crossing & Arrival

New Horizon Ferry operates the route from West End, Tortola, to Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke. The crossing takes approximately 25 minutes through the Sir Francis Drake Channel. This is a domestic BVI route — no customs or immigration required.

The ferry departs from the West End Ferry Terminal on the western tip of Tortola, near Soper's Hole Wharf and Marina. If you're coming from Road Town, the taxi ride to West End takes about 20 minutes; from Cane Garden Bay, roughly 15 minutes. Note that New Horizon Ferry is cash only on board — bring bills for your ticket. There are no ATMs on Jost Van Dyke, so bring enough cash for your return trip and any spending on the island.

The crossing is generally calm, though it can get choppy during winter trade wind season (December through April).

Great Harbour is the main settlement on Jost Van Dyke. The Government Dock where you'll arrive is right on the beach. Foxy's Tamarind Bar is steps away. White Bay, home of the Soggy Dollar Bar (birthplace of the Painkiller cocktail), is about a 15-minute walk from Great Harbour.

Jost Van Dyke is tiny (roughly 300 residents) and easily walkable. There's no car rental on the island and it's not needed. Bring cash, as not all businesses accept cards.
