What to know before you sail

Terminals, Crossing & Arrival

Inter Island Boat Services operates ferry service from Crown Bay Marina on St. Thomas to Cruz Bay Creek on St. John. The crossing takes approximately 35 minutes. No passport is required — this is a domestic USVI route.

Crown Bay Marina is the closest ferry terminal to Cyril E. King Airport — only about 5 minutes by taxi. This makes it the best option if you're coming straight from a flight and heading to St. John. Compare this to Red Hook, which is about 25 minutes from the airport. The Crown Bay route saves meaningful time and taxi fare for airport arrivals.

The Crown Bay terminal is on the west side of Charlotte Amalie harbor. There is parking available at the marina if you're driving yourself.

Note that Crown Bay ferries arrive at The Creek dock in Cruz Bay — not the main ferry dock (Loredon L. Boynes, Sr. Dock). The Creek is about a 10-minute walk from the center of Cruz Bay town. Taxis are available at The Creek for those heading to beaches and resorts elsewhere on St. John. If you're staying in the Cruz Bay area, the walk into town is easy and flat.
